Head Space

Up until this moment, Flight of the Tumblebee has primarily focused on personal stories and what I've experienced during bouts of travel. While I would like to retain travel and cross-cultural experiences as part of my content, I believe it's time I take this blog in a new (more concrete?) direction. Starting next week, I will start a new posting schedule. Mondays and Wednesdays will be dedicated to posts connected with the nature of creativity and/or creative thinking. Mondays will remain pretty general, but I would like for Wednesdays to lean more towards writing.

As some of you know, I am currently pursuing a Master's degree in Gifted Education. My particular Gifted Ed program is quite heavy on fostering creativity in young minds. This semester, I'm taking a course requiring that I, myself, “master” a new creative skill. Because I've been interested in the subject for a very long time (*cough* and because I just bought a new tablet *cough*), I've decided to try my hand at digital artwork! The lash and whip of a deadline and a grade point average should theoretically keep me on task. Thus, I'm very excited about the opportunity to force myself to practice-make-perfect. While I may still post some of my visual art on this blog, I've found that Tumblr tends to be a better platform for eye-candy. Thus, I will mainly be using this blog as a space to talk about the experience of taking up a new medium.

Don't worry. I'm sure I'll find enough moments of deviation to provide you with the occasional ridiculous animated GIF. That counts as digital art, right? Right...

So, come on, let's get our hands dirty. Let's find out what makes the creative mind tick. Let's toss some paint, sling some words, and smear some pixels! Whatever your interest, whatever your craft, in the words of my most influential art teacher, let's “Make Great Art!”
